Snipe-IT vulnerable to stored XSS via inline-served attachment
GitHub lists this reviewed advisory for snipe/snipe-it. Published version ranges and source prerequisites are shown below; this is not an inspection of a visitor’s application.
This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.

02 / Applicability
The affected context
Affected versions, configuration prerequisites and known exclusions are public. Confirm each one against the deployed service.

source listed<= 8.6.1
### Impact A low-privilege user can store an active-content payload as an asset attachment and have it served inline, same-origin, with an active Content-Type, achieving stored XSS. The application sanitizes uploads only when PHP finfo detects image/svg+xml. By submitting an XHTML document whose finfo MIME is text/xml (an allowed extension), the svg-sanitize branch is skipped, the is stored raw, and the inline-serve path returns it as text/xml; charset=utf-8 with Content-Disposition: inline — which the browser renders as a live XHTML document and executes. The dedicated StorageHelper::allowSafeInline() whitelist that should have constrained inline-renderable types is never wired into the serve path. ### Details Vulnerable code — sanitizer keyed on finfo MIME `app/Http/Requests/UploadFileRequest.php:46-53` ```php $extension = $file->getClientOriginalExtension(); $file_name = $name_prefix.'-'.str_random(8).'-'.str_slug(...).'.'.$file->guessExtension(); ... if ($file->getMimeType() === 'image/svg+xml') { $uploaded_file = $this->handleSVG($file); // svg-sanitize fires } else { $uploaded_file = file_get_contents($file); // stored RAW — no sanitization } ``` Vulne

What to do next
- investigate
Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. FIRST EPSS
- vendor patch
The original advisory lists fixed boundaries 8.6.2 for snipe/snipe-it. Confirm the publisher’s latest guidance.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database via OSV
A fixed release is not deployment evidence.
Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.

What this report cannot establish
- Customer inventory, deployment, reachability and exploitation have not been inspected.
- NVD lastModified does not establish freshness of every associated CPE record.
