MantisBT is vulnerable to authentication bypass through the SOAP API on MySQL
OSV carries this publisher advisory for mantisbt/mantisbt. This is an aggregated source copy; consult the original publisher and compare update dates.
This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.

mantisbt/mantisbt
source listedECOSYSTEM: introduced 0; fixed 2.28.1
Mantis Bug Tracker instances running on MySQL and compatible databases are affected by an authentication bypass vulnerability in the SOAP API, as a result of improper type checking on the password parameter. Other database backends are not affected, as they do not perform implicit type conversion from string to integer. ### Impact Using a crafted SOAP envelope, an attacker knowing the victim's username is able to login to the SOAP API with their account without knowledge of the actual password, and execute any API function they have access to. ### Patches * b349e5c890eeda9bd82e7c7e14479853f8a30d9f ### Workarounds - Disabling the SOAP API significantly reduces the risk, but still allows the attacker to retrieve user account information including email address and real name. ### Resources - https://mantisbt.org/bugs/view.php?id=36902 ### Credits MantisBT thanks Alexander Philiotis of SynerComm for discovering and responsibly reporting the issue.

What to do next
- vendor patch
The original advisory lists fixed boundaries 2.28.1 for mantisbt/mantisbt. Confirm the publisher’s latest guidance.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database via OSV
- investigate
Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. FIRST EPSS
A fixed release is not deployment evidence.
Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.
