LibreNMS — Stored XSS via SNMP/Syslog Data in Legacy Templates

GitHub lists this reviewed advisory for librenms/librenms. Published version ranges and source prerequisites are shown below; this is not an inspection of a visitor’s application.

source listedactiveGHSA-7w8c-qgxg-m7jxCVE-2026-84192

This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.

01 / Meaning

Why it matters

Published affected context helps an owner decide what evidence to gather. This report has not examined your application.

CVSS

7.1 high

GitHub source severity; exploitability and local consequence require separate evidence.

As of · GitHub Advisory Database

EPSS

0.331%

FIRST EPSS model v2026.06.15; exploitation probability over 30 days, percentile 0.26331. Missing scores are unknown.

## Summary Multiple legacy PHP template files in LibreNMS directly output SNMP-sourced and syslog-sourced data into HTML without escaping. An attacker who controls a monitored network device (via compromised SNMP agent or syslog sender) can inject arbitrary JavaScript that executes when any authenticated LibreNMS user views the affected pages. ## Vulnerable Code ### Location 1: Syslog `program` field (clearest instance) **File:** `includes/html/print-syslog.inc.php:11,13` ```php $syslog_output .= '' . $entry['program'] . ' : ' . htmlspecialchars((string) $entry['msg']) . ''; ``` The `program` field is output without `htmlspecialchars()` while the adjacent `msg` field IS properly escaped. The `program` value comes from syslog messages received from monitored devices. ### Location 2: Alert details `ifAlias` (highest impact — main alerts page) **File:** `includes/html/functions.inc.php:607` ```php $fault_detail .= $tmp_alerts['ifAlias'] . '; '; ``` The `ifAlias` (port description) comes from SNMP polling and is stored in the `ports` table. When a port-related alert fires, `format_alert_details()` renders it unescaped. What to do next

  1. investigate

Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.

Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. FIRST EPSS

  2. vendor patch

The original advisory lists fixed boundaries 26.5.0 for librenms/librenms. Confirm the publisher’s latest guidance.

Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database via OSV

A fixed release is not deployment evidence.

Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.
