OSV carries this publisher advisory for winter/wn-backend-module. This is an aggregated source copy; consult the original publisher and compare update dates.
This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.

source listedECOSYSTEM: introduced 1.2.10; fixed 1.2.13
### Impact Authenticated Backend Users with the `backend.manage_editor` ("Manage editor settings") permission can provide custom styles through **Settings → Editor Settings → Markup Styles** that are compiled through the LESS CSS parser and rendered on every backend page. Previously, the compiled output was not sanitized, which could have allowed a stored XSS attack. Although this is a valid security issue, it's important to note that its severity is relatively low. To exploit the vulnerability, an attacker would already need to have trusted access to the Winter CMS backend with a specific administrative permission. The Winter CMS maintainers recommend that the `backend.manage_editor` permission only be granted to trusted administrators and developers. A related issue exists in the custom CSS field at **Settings → Customize Backend → Styles** (`backend.manage_branding` permission), which uses the same rendering mechanism and is addressed separately.

What to do next
- vendor patch
The original advisory lists fixed boundaries 1.2.13 for winter/wn-backend-module. Confirm the publisher’s latest guidance.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database via OSV
- investigate
Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. FIRST EPSS
A fixed release is not deployment evidence.
Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.
