LiquidJS has a renderLimit DoS guard bypass via empty `{% for %}` body
GitHub lists this reviewed advisory for liquidjs. Published version ranges and source prerequisites are shown below; this is not an inspection of a visitor’s application.
This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.
01 / Meaning
Why it matters
Published affected context helps an owner decide what evidence to gather. This report has not examined your application.
6.5 medium
GitHub source severity; exploitability and local consequence require separate evidence.
As of · GitHub Advisory Database
6.5 MEDIUM (3.1)
security-advisories@github.com severity; no combined Null risk score.
02 / Applicability

## Summary The `renderLimit` option — documented in `docs/source/tutorials/dos.md` as the mechanism that "mitigates this by limiting the time consumed by each render() call" — can be fully bypassed by a `{% for %}` (or `{% tablerow %}`) tag whose body is empty. The per-iteration time check is reached only when the body contains at least one template node, so a template like `{%- for i in (1..N) -%}{%- endfor -%}` iterates the full collection without ever consulting `renderLimit`. With a configured `renderLimit` of 50 ms, a single `parseAndRenderSync` call has been observed to consume **2.26 seconds** (~45× over the limit) and scales linearly with `N` up to `memoryLimit`, allowing a low-privileged template author to wedge an event-loop thread for an attacker-chosen duration. ## Details `Render.renderTemplates` is the single point at which `renderLimit` is consulted: ```ts // src/render/render.ts 14: public * renderTemplates (templates: Template[], ctx: Context, emitter?: Emitter): IterableIterator { 15: if (!emitter) { 16: emitter = ctx.opts.keepOutputType ? new KeepingTypeEmitter() : new SimpleEmitter() 17: } 18: const errors = [] 19: for (const tpl of te

What to do next
- investigate
Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. NIST National Vulnerability Database
- vendor patch
The original advisory lists fixed boundaries 10.26.0 for liquidjs. Confirm the publisher’s latest guidance.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database via OSV
A fixed release is not deployment evidence.
Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.

What this report cannot establish
- Customer inventory, deployment, reachability and exploitation have not been inspected.
- NVD lastModified does not establish freshness of every associated CPE record.
