## Source: amazon-inspector (3c72c588f940a53ee4432bb472a919af2dac7e6d86344c8427764f38d6412b93) The package presents itself as a Next.js update tool but its exported downloadAndRunUpdate function in index.js retrieves updater.hta from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Acevatex/Testprogram/main/updater.hta, writes it to the OS temp directory, and executes it via spawn("cmd.exe", ["/c", destPath], { detached: true, windowsHide: true }). The fetch targets a mutable main branch of a personal GitHub account unrelated to the npm publisher and unrelated to Next.js, with no version pin and no integrity check, so whatever bytes that repository serves at invocation time run on the Windows host with the invoking user's privileges and no visible window. The package name and description mirror Next.js tooling to make the dropper appear legitimate. --- Credit: OpenSSF (source)

03 / Response

What to do next

  1. investigate

Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.

Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database

A fixed release is not deployment evidence.

Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.
