Trigger.dev: Unauthenticated Realtime Stream Data Injection via Run FriendlyId
GitHub lists this reviewed advisory for trigger.dev. Published version ranges and source prerequisites are shown below; this is not an inspection of a visitor’s application.
This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.
01 / Meaning
Why it matters
Published affected context helps an owner decide what evidence to gather. This report has not examined your application.
5.3 medium
GitHub source severity; exploitability and local consequence require separate evidence.

Affected versions, configuration prerequisites and known exclusions are public. Confirm each one against the deployed service.
trigger.dev
source listed<= 4.5.4
## Summary The POST handler for `/realtime/v1/streams/:runId/:streamId` has no authentication. Any entity that knows or guesses a run friendlyId can inject arbitrary data into its realtime stream. ## Vulnerability Details **File:** `apps/webapp/app/routes/realtime.v1.streams.$runId.$streamId.ts` The `action` handler (line 17) has no auth wrapper. The code comment says: "Plain action for backwards compatibility with older clients that don't send auth headers." The run lookup at line 29 uses `where: { friendlyId: runId }` with NO environment scoping (`runtimeEnvironmentId` is not checked), so production runs are accessible. Run friendlyIds follow predictable patterns (e.g., `run_1234abcd`). ## Steps to Reproduce ```bash # No authentication required curl -X POST "http://localhost:8030/realtime/v1/streams/run_KNOWN_ID/stream_1" -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"injected": "data"}' ``` ## Impact Unauthenticated data injection into any run realtime stream. Cross-environment access (no scoping).

What to do next
- investigate
Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database
- vendor patch
The original advisory lists fixed boundaries 4.5.5 for trigger.dev. Confirm the publisher’s latest guidance.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database via OSV
A fixed release is not deployment evidence.
Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.
