Axios form serializer maxDepth bypass via {} metatoken
GitHub lists this reviewed advisory for axios, axios. Published version ranges and source prerequisites are shown below; this is not an inspection of a visitor’s application.
This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.
01 / Meaning
Why it matters
Published affected context helps an owner decide what evidence to gather. This report has not examined your application.
02 / Applicability
The affected context
Affected versions, configuration prerequisites and known exclusions are public. Confirm each one against the deployed service.

source listed>= 0.31.1, < 0.33.0
## Summary Axios versions in the fixed lines for GHSA-62hf-57xw-28j9 still contain an incomplete depth-limit bypass in `lib/helpers/toFormData.js`. When serializing an object with a top-level key ending in `{}`, axios calls `JSON.stringify()` on that value before the `formSerializer.maxDepth` guard can inspect the nested structure. An attacker who can control object keys and nested values passed by an application into axios form or parameter serialization can trigger a raw `RangeError: Maximum call stack size exceeded`, causing a denial of service in the affected request path. ## Impact The impact is availability only. No confidentiality or integrity impact was confirmed. Server-side applications are the primary concern when they accept user-controlled input and pass it into axios as `data` or `params` for `multipart/form-data`, `application/x-www-form-urlencoded`, or default parameter serialization. Browser impact is limited to the page or request context unless the application builds a broader failure mode around the thrown exception. The attack requires control over a top-level object key ending in `{}` and a deeply nested object value. The option `formSerializer.metaToken

What to do next
- investigate
Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database
A fixed release is not deployment evidence.
Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.

What this report cannot establish
- Customer inventory, deployment, reachability and exploitation have not been inspected.
05 / Provenance
Sources you can inspect
Each assertion retains its source. Mirrored records may repeat one underlying publisher; additional links are not independent corroboration.
