undici vulnerable to cross-user information disclosure and parse-time crash via degenerate private cache directives

GitHub lists this reviewed advisory for undici, undici. Published version ranges and source prerequisites are shown below; this is not an inspection of a visitor’s application.

This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.

01 / Meaning

Why it matters

Published affected context helps an owner decide what evidence to gather. This report has not examined your application.

CVSS

7.4 high

GitHub source severity; exploitability and local consequence require separate evidence.

As of · GitHub Advisory Database

EPSS

0.569%

FIRST EPSS model v2026.06.15; exploitation probability over 30 days, percentile 0.47253. Missing scores are unknown.

### Summary Two issues in undici's cache interceptor, both fixed by the same patch on `lib/util/cache.js`: 1. **Shared-cache disclosure:** Responses with malformed qualified `Cache-Control: private` directives such as `private=""` or `private=","` can be incorrectly stored in the default shared cache, then served to a later caller with the same cache key. 2. **Parse-time crash:** Mixed unqualified-and-qualified `private` directives in the same header (such as `public, max-age=60, private, private="hdr"`) cause an uncaught `TypeError` in the cache-control parser, terminating the request. ### Impact #### Shared-cache disclosure Applications using `interceptors.cache()` in shared mode may cache a user-specific response and serve it to a later caller with the same cache key. This can disclose private response bodies and headers, including `Set-Cookie`. Required conditions: - the cache interceptor is enabled in shared mode, including the default configuration; - an upstream returns a malformed directive such as `Cache-Control: public, max-age=300, private=""`; - another request later matches the same cache key, without a separating `Vary` header. #### Parse-time crash Applicati

What to do next

  1. investigate

Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.

Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. FIRST EPSS

A fixed release is not deployment evidence.

Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.
