Lemur: Missing authorization check on POST /certificates//export for plugins with requires_key = False
GitHub lists this reviewed advisory for lemur. Published version ranges and source prerequisites are shown below; this is not an inspection of a visitor’s application.
This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.

## Summary The `CertificateExport` handler in `lemur/certificates/views.py` nests its entire ownership / `CertificatePermission` check inside an `if plugin.requires_key:` branch. When the selected export plugin advertises `requires_key = False`, the authorization check is skipped entirely and any authenticated user can invoke `plugin.export(cert.body, cert.chain, cert.private_key, options)` against a certificate they do not own. The handler additionally writes a `"key_view"` audit-log event for every call, regardless of whether the plugin actually accessed the private key, polluting the audit trail with false positives. ## Root Cause `lemur/certificates/views.py:1573`: ```python if plugin.requires_key: if not cert.private_key: return (..., 400) else: if g.current_user != cert.user: owner_role = role_service.get_by_name(cert.owner) permission = CertificatePermission(owner_role, [x.name for x in cert.roles]) if not permission.can(): return (..., 403) log_service.create(g.current_user, "key_view", certificate=cert) # always logged extension, passphrase, data = plugin.export( cert.body, cert.cha

What to do next
- investigate
Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database
A fixed release is not deployment evidence.
Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.
