vulnerability / NVI-00015292 / Revision 1
`nx graph` dev server permissive CORS policy
GitHub lists this reviewed advisory for nx, nx. Published version ranges and source prerequisites are shown below; this is not an inspection of a visitor’s application.
This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.
01 / Meaning
Why it matters
Published affected context helps an owner decide what evidence to gather. This report has not examined your application.
5.9 medium
GitHub source severity; exploitability and local consequence require separate evidence.

## Summary The local HTTP server started by `nx graph` sent `Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *` on every response, letting any website a developer visited read the server's responses cross-origin — including the full project graph and the output of the `/help` endpoint, which runs a target's configured help command. The practical impact is typically **cross-origin information disclosure**, but can be arbitrary command injection in rare cases. ## Severity Exploitation requires the developer to be running `nx graph` and to visit an attacker page. Any execution beyond benign help commands also requires a malicious target to already be present in the workspace (see Details). ## Affected & Patched Versions Package: `nx` (npm). - **Affected:** `>= 17.0.4, = 23.0.0-beta.0, < 23.0.0-beta.2` - **Patched:** `22.7.2`+ (backport) and `23.0.0` (first in `23.0.0-beta.2`) The wildcard CORS header was introduced in `17.0.4`; the `/help` execution endpoint in `19.4.0`. **The `21.x` line is not patched** — `21.x` users should upgrade to `22.7.2` or later. ## Details `nx graph` starts a local server (default `http://127.0.0.1:4211`). What to do next
- investigate
Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database
A fixed release is not deployment evidence.
Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.

- Customer inventory, deployment, reachability and exploitation have not been inspected.
05 / Provenance
Sources you can inspect
Each assertion retains its source. Mirrored records may repeat one underlying publisher; additional links are not independent corroboration.
