Fabric.js improper escaping in fabric.Gradient colorStops leads to XSS in SVG serialization
GitHub lists this reviewed advisory for fabric. Published version ranges and source prerequisites are shown below; this is not an inspection of a visitor’s application.
This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.

### Summary A potential Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in Fabric.js due to improper escaping of user-controlled input during SVG serialization via the `toSVG()` method. Specifically, the `color` field within the `colorStops` array of a `fabric.Gradient` object is not properly escaped when converted into SVG `` elements. If an application renders the generated SVG string into the DOM (e.g., via `innerHTML`), this may allow an attacker to inject arbitrary HTML/SVG and execute JavaScript in the victim's browser. ### Details During SVG export, Fabric.js serializes gradient color stops into `` elements like: ```xml ``` However, the `color` value is inserted into the `stop-color` attribute without proper escaping of special characters such as `"`, ``. This allows crafted input to break out of the attribute context and inject arbitrary markup. For example: ```js color: 'red">' ``` may result in: ```xml ``` This breaks the intended SVG structure and introduces executable HTML. ### PoC (Proof of Concept)

What to do next
- investigate
Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.
Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. FIRST EPSS
A fixed release is not deployment evidence.
Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.
04 / Limits
What this report cannot establish
- Customer inventory, deployment, reachability and exploitation have not been inspected.
- NVD lastModified does not establish freshness of every associated CPE record.
05 / Provenance
Sources you can inspect
Each assertion retains its source. Mirrored records may repeat one underlying publisher; additional links are not independent corroboration.
