GitHub lists this reviewed advisory for nimiq-keys. Published version ranges and source prerequisites are shown below; this is not an inspection of a visitor’s application.

This report has not inspected your inventory, configuration, deployed build, reachability or evidence. A catalog listing and a severity score do not establish exposure or compromise.

### Impact A malicious network peer can crash any Nimiq full node by publishing a crafted Kademlia DHT record containing a `TaggedSigned` with a signature field whose byte length is not exactly 64. When the victim node's DHT verifier calls `TaggedSigned::verify`, execution reaches `Ed25519Signature::from_bytes(sig).unwrap()` in the `TaggedPublicKey` implementation for `Ed25519PublicKey`. The `from_bytes` call fails because `ed25519_zebra::Signature::try_from` rejects slices not 64 bytes, and the `unwrap()` panics. The BLS `TaggedPublicKey` implementation correctly returns `false` on error; only the Ed25519 implementation panics. ### Patches The patch for this vulnerability is formally released as part of v1.4.0. ### Workarounds No known workarounds. ### Resources See PR.

03 / Response

What to do next

  1. investigate

Identify the exact component and deployed version, examine the linked publisher’s conditions, and retain evidence of any mitigation.

Confirm current vendor support, compatibility and deployment evidence. This report has not tested a fix in your system. GitHub Advisory Database

A fixed release is not deployment evidence.

Check current vendor support and compatibility. After making a change, verify the deployed build and relevant runtime conditions. Keep the evidence, owner and time. An updated lockfile alone does not prove what is running.
